Installation is made of large number of books and large number of toys. Usually when setting up installation, I gather books associated to the actual site of installation (thre have been two installations - in flat and in SSE Riga - Stockholm School Of Economics - using books available in school library and flat bookshelf accordingly). Toys are my collectables, I have been collecting and buying them for a period of 2-3 years, and still buing, when i find a unique piece. It has been real fun to watch children reaction when they get to see this ammount of toys. Even their parents and older people gen involved and start playing. For me it is fun to find toys which can be staged and are fit together to express a meaning.
Setup is made so that "smarter books" are on top and those that are not - at the bottom. Toys are put in same way - primitive animals, bugs, fishes are at bottom, next level are cartoon heroes, higher order animals, next - robots, people, general public, then comes military perosnell, kings queens, then superheroes, upper level being occupied by aliens and other higher forms of life available in toy medium.

These two pictures show two of three phases of installation. One is fully constructed installation, other is demolished. There is also a phase of reconstruction of demolished installation.
During exhibition this installation would be constantly constructed / demolished / reconstructed. As a parallel to mandala making process and real life events in world - where development reaches its highest peak to become unstable and destructive - like Empires, Regimes, Ideas etc. |
