I use sketchwok by Sandijs Greiskans - large ammount of small drawings of similar size. Goal is to make compound portrait out of many portraits by cutting each portrait in parts and setting up new composition. This is done in 4 steps - gradually increasing the ammount of breakdown of each portrait for the benefit of one large compound portrait. Each step is pushing individual portrait towards one universal composition - portrait / face.
Phase 1 - each portrait drawing is cut in 3 parts - left eye, right eye, lower part of face - mouth). Then arranged in random setup to form new portrait from 3 different parts. Each portrait gains unique perosnality and trace of resemblance of original portrait. Mixed genes.
Phase 3 - each portrait is cut in more parts and each part is put close to similar part - mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hair / head to head to form image of one large portrait made of many. This is one step before final composition.

Phase 2 - each portrait is cut in more parts. Eyes, mouth, ears, nose, back of the head, chin. Then composition is made by putting each part so that face pattern is formed around one distinct part. Some random placement included. Face pattern recognition is possible by joining distant elements. This makes more than one possible face pattern visible from each element.
Phase 3 - final composition is made of portrait sketches cut in even more partsand by putting each part in a place according to goal - to make one large portrait out of many small. This is merger of portraits final product.
